These are a few images I selected that I felt needed some explaining.

"Self-Portrait"
The self-portrait above was created using glue, several magazines, and a hole puncher. I selected various colors from hair, skin, clothes, and other items in photos then used it to recreate a school photo of me. I think what made it look so accurate is the fact that I matched up the magazine image with my image. For example, for my hair, I used mostly color taken from hair in the picture, and for skin I used mostly circles I punched out from a face, etc.. This piece won 'Best of Show' at my high school's annual art show.

The image on the right was taken from 'Town & Country' Magazine
Earlier this year a friend of the family called up and swore she saw my picture in a magazine she subscribes to. So, when we went to visit, sure enough there I was in the middle of the picture in a magazine. It was featured next to an article about Gallery 37, which is a downtown art program I work at. The photo was taken in August of 1999 in the Marwen Portraiture tent. By the way, the woman standing in back of me is Maggie Daley, the wife of Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley.

I'm the person in the very top-middle of the picture (in the blue shirt).

"Smile"
A lot of people have questioned me about this painting. The title is the basic theme of the symbolism. Anytime I take a picture, I smile, but only for the camera. I force a grin and for a moment have to forget about how I'm really feeling. So many times in my life, I feel like I've been literally forced to smile for a picture perfect photo. |
